De Los Santos Medical Center Wins Patient Care Initiative of the Year at Healthcare Asia Awards

De Los Santos Medical Center was named the recipient of the Patient Care Initiative of the Year – Philippines at the Healthcare Asia Awards, a regional program that celebrates excellence and innovation in hospital care. The award recognizes the hospital’s Comprehensive Patient Navigation Program, a multi-disciplinary initiative designed to help patients—especially those with chronic and complex illnesses—navigate their treatment journey with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

Launched as part of the hospital’s vision to deliver truly patient-centered care, the program offers personalized case management, psychosocial support, and care coordination. This initiative not only enhanced patient satisfaction but also improved compliance, clinical outcomes, and reduced readmission rates—solidifying De Los Santos Medical Center’s position as a leader in quality care delivery in the Philippines.

De Los Santos Medical Center proudly received the Gold Seal of Approval® from the Joint Commission International (JCI)—one of the world’s most recognized and respected standards-setting bodies in healthcare. This accreditation affirms that the hospital meets rigorous international benchmarks for patient safety, clinical care, infection prevention and control, and operational efficiency.

Undergoing a comprehensive and independent evaluation, DLSMC demonstrated excellence in more than 1,200 measurable elements across the care continuum. The JCI seal represents not just a badge of quality but a commitment to continuous improvement, transparency, and accountability. For patients, it signals world-class standards of care in a local setting.

At the annual Philippine Hospital Association Awards, De Los Santos Medical Center was honored as the Outstanding Hospital in Community Engagement and Governance. The award acknowledges the hospital’s strategic leadership in rolling out public health programs and sustainable community outreach initiatives—ranging from mobile clinics and teleconsultations to free specialty checkups and health education drives.

This recognition highlights DLSMC’s commitment to extending care beyond hospital walls and into the heart of the community. By fostering partnerships with local governments, NGOs, and barangay health units, the hospital not only expanded access to care but also empowered communities with tools for long-term wellness and disease prevention.

De Los Santos Medical Center Bags Excellence Award in Hospital Operations at AHMA

De Los Santos Medical Center has been honored with the Excellence Award in Hospital Operations at the Asian Hospital Management Awards (AHMA), a prestigious regional event recognizing the best practices in hospital management across Asia. The award highlights the hospital’s successful initiatives in streamlining operational workflows, optimizing patient turnaround time, and ensuring efficient delivery of clinical and non-clinical services.

This recognition reflects De Los Santos Medical Center’s steadfast commitment to innovation and service excellence, reinforcing its reputation as a leading institution under Metro Pacific Health. By continuously improving hospital operations, DLSMC ensures that every patient receives timely, coordinated, and quality care.

  • De Los Santos Medical Center (DLSMC) is a 150-bed, Level 3 private tertiary hospital in Quezon City with over 838 active and visiting multi-specialist physicians. The medical institution is the 7th member hospital of Metro Pacific Health (MPH), under the MVP Group of Companies headed by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

    The hospital was founded on September 17, 1949 by Dr. Jose V. de los Santos Sr., known as the Father of Philippine Orthopedics. Together with his wife, Doña Pacita V. de los Santos, they established a 30-bed clinic along E. Rodriguez Sr. Boulevard which specialized in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with bone abnormalities in support of their daughters who were stricken with polio.

    On November 17, 1973, the family-owned De Los Santos Clinic expanded into a 150-bed facility known as De Los Santos General Hospital and added specializations including Internal medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics, and surgery.

    By June 3, 2013, the hospital, now called De Los Santos Medical Center, partnered with Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and became the 7th hospital under the MPHHI banner.

    Under MPH, DLSMC underwent several upgrades including structural renovations to the main hospital, and conversion of the adjacent building to a Medical Arts Building with over 50 doctors’ clinics. Alongside the hospital’s physical expansions, specialty centers were introduced for specific diagnostic and therapeutic services.

    The hospital also performs specialized services in cardiology, gastroenterology, and minimally invasive surgery. It also became the first private, level 3 hospital in Quezon City to offer the PhilHealth Z Benefit Package for kidney transplantation.

    In 2018, DLSMC opened its first Catheterization Laboratory Unit offering interventional procedures for cardiology, radiology, neurology, neuroradiology, and nephrology. 

    In 2019, the hospital added Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG) to its cardiovascular services and established the Cardiovascular Surgery Unit. The Congenital and Structural Heart Unit was opened on February 26, 2021, catering to pediatric patients with congenital heart disease.

    In 2022, De Los Santos became the 9th hospital in the National Capital Region to be contracted by PhilHealth as a facility that offers the CABG Z-Benefit Package to help patients afford the costs of open heart surgery. 

    Together with its structural and service expansion, DLSMC also focuses its efforts on two main growth drivers─ clinical excellence and great patient experience. The institution continually adds to its roster the best and brightest physicians, nurses, ancillary and administrative staff, as well as adhere to the strictest healthcare and safety standards. Patient feedback is very important and through DLSMC’s Patient Experience Department, input is used to further enhance and improve hospital services not only for the patient, but also their families, and the community.

DLSMC Research Ethics Committee

Established in 2023, the DLSMC-REC operates independently under the oversight of the Chief Medical Officer and is composed of multidisciplinary members trained in research ethics and good clinical practice. Guided by national and international guidelines, the committee reviews proposals to safeguard participant rights and promote responsible research practices within and beyond the institution
